World Press Photo of the year awarded to Samuel Aranda
The international jury of the 55th annual World Press Photo Contest announced Friday that it had selected a picture by Samuel Aranda as the World Press Photo of the Year 2011.
Jurors said the photo of a veiled woman holding a wounded relative in her arms after a demonstration in Yemen captured multiple facets of the “Arab Spring” uprisings across the Middle East last year. It was taken at a field hospital inside a mosque in Sanaa on October 15.
The winning photo was selected from 101,254 images submitted by 5,247 photographers from 124 countries. (source)
Those faces make me so sad..
The eyes of Marines before, during & after Afghanistan. Photographed by Dutch photographer Claire Felicie.
Do you see all of them during? Oh my God..
The solstice this year was spent at Jason & Cree’s house. Jason is John’s older brother. This is the closest we got to all of us smiling at the same time. They were taking a family photo for keepsake, and they wanted me in it. I’ve known them for 4+ years. They have become my family. In this from left to right is: myself, John, Jason, a very pregnant Cree (Jason’s partner) and Chris (the younger brother).
[side note: The sweater I’m wearing is one from the 1950’s. I got it earlier this month. It was my grandma’s. She just passed away the day after Thanksgiving. It is acrylic and wool. It has little rhinestones and pearls on it. I felt really nerdy wearing it for a little while, but I love it, and I guess that is all that matters!]
Hopefully something like this will happen to most cars. One of my co-workers thinks I should have some sort of reality check for taking the bus and walking everywhere… when its really her who needs one. Guess what, not everyone always:
a)wants to drive
b)wants to get a license
c)gives a shit about “looking cool”
d)has the money for insurance/car payments
e)feels like sucking oil and polluting the air with the convenience they have parked in their garage.
